I am in process of designing a proposal for my customer who has ESX 4.0 server with local storage with 2x Dell 2950 servers. Each ESX 4.0 server has 2x Physical CPUs, 16GB RAM and 360 GB local storage. Each server has 3 VMs with Windows 2008 R2 OS.
SOW:
1. Wants to connect the both ESX servers with EMC SAN 5000x FC SAN.
2. Has 5 TB allocation on SAN
3. Wants to connect each VM to SAN with 1 TB, 2TB and 500GB disk allocation
What is best configuration is good for him.
Option1: Connection to each ESX host through HBAs to the SAN, and make one large LUN of 5 TB. and addking this whole 5 TB lun to each host as data store from storage tab of VCenter server.. and add more Harddisk to each VM separately.
Option 2. Enable NPIV configuration to each VM and adding Whole Storage to VMs and do NPIV configurationon storage Level
Option 3. or present whole Storage a RDM..........
An expert comment is requested..............
