Hi Guys,
I recently upgraded from vCenter 4.0 to 5 with a mixture of 4.0 and 4.1 hosts (with the aim to get everyone to ESXi 5)
As we only have 10 hosts I decided to create a new SQL database, new Datacenter and New Cluster and bring the hosts into the new environment.
The installation went OK but the issue was, when the hosts were brought into the new vCenter Server, I got a lot of "Unsupported" in the VMWare Tools for the guest machines. This in turn created slow network performance and a lot of issues for some of the Guest VMS. After a reboot the VM appeared to be OK.
Just wondering if I could have done anything to avoid this as we said the customer would not have any downtime and I would like to avoid this for the next upgrade. We had to reboot about 36 out of 60 hosts which was unacceptable.
I did a dummy run in my test lab and everything seemed OK. Could it be because I have 4.0 hosts in the mix and maybe vSphere 5 doesnt allow that version of VMWare tools?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
