I am currently on VS4 Essentials and looking into upgrading to VS5 Essentials Plus, mainly because of vDR and vMotion.
My contract ended September 2011 and was not renewed, but it seems i'm still entitled to upgrade to VS5 via the licensing center.
This is my plan:
- buy the corresponding upgrade kit for my version-4-license (Upgrade SKU VS4-ESSL-ESSL-PL-UG-C)
- upgrade from ESS to ESS-PL (i think my reseller can do this for me) in licensing center
- and lateron use the entitlement from my old license to switch to VSphere 5
(- while not renewing my support contract)
Will this work, or do i need to reinstate my support contract before upgrading the licenses?
Does the ESS-PL Upgrade package come with a mandatory support contract?
