ESXi Windows 7 Time/Microsoft Seurity Essentials Issues

i'm running a  windows 7 vm off esxi 5, i have full connectivity but; windows time  sync, microsoft security essentials update, windows live mesh, and a few  other services won't work.  right after creation everything works great  as long as you use a E1000 network adapter, but as soon as vmware tools  is installed or a VMXNET 3 adapter is used these services stop working.   as far as i know they all use port 443 or ssl.  has anyone ran across  anything like this before?  hope you can help me out, i really appreciate it.
