# of Processors? Physical or Logical Cores?

Sorry if this has been addressed, I searched but could find something that directly answered this question.

I have a 4 core / 8 Thread CPU.

so in VM player or workstation. when I look at the allocated Processor count. for my CPU can I assign 8 Processors?

Can VM player/workstation differ between phisical and locigal cores?
