differences between IDE and SATA ? - sure - the guestOS would need different drivers ....

 

but for this case you can ignore that.

 

For a start just go with what Workstation assigns the drive as.

 

If your host operating system uses a special AHCI-driver then it probably will assign the drive as SCSI.
If you dont use such a driver or disabled AHCI in BIOS of the host then it probably will be assigned as IDE.

 

So add the drive to your VM and try to install your guest.
If that fails we can still switch to the other mode
