Adobe Air issues on host machine with VMWare Fusion

I recently switched to VMWare Fusion on my MacBook Pro running Lion.  I have a Windows 7 VM that works perfectly.  My biggest issue is that an Adobe Air based Digital Signage control application will not open unless I have VMWare running.  I don't have to boot the VM, I just have to have VMWare open.

I'm a fairly advance Mac user, but do not know much about Adobe Air.  Any advice or insight that might be offered would be greatly appreciated.

System Specs:  2012 MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz i7, 8 GB RAM, OS X 10.7.2, VMWare Fusion 4.1.1
