There are a few best practices when using Converter. They're covered nicely here and I highly recommend following them as best you can.
Without more details about your situation, I can at least share my experiences. I've had more successes (and fewer problems!) installing Converter directly on the machine to be converted. Also, try to use IP addresses where possible and log in the source machine using a local administrator account. Using IP addresses should take DNS out of the equation and a local admin account should have all the permissions you need, thus removing Active Directory permissions.
What service(s) is your server-to-be-converted running?
