Re: How do I backup the virtual machines installed on VMware ESXi, so I can put on another server?

This is great - we did not know about the datastore browser.  Took a while to find it.  If anyone is reading this, you go to your vSphere client, click on your machine IP on the left, then configuration tab, then "Storage" under HW, then right click on your datastore and chose "Browser Datastore".

We will remote desktop to a windows machine in the DC, and do the migration of VMs to the new server by downloading each vmdk file, or possibly a snaphot file if that doesnt work, and copying them to the store on the other machine using the browser.

We have vSphere5 trial loaded at the moment, but when that runs out we will buy an "Essentials" license.  However, there is still a big question mark over if the 3 physical hosts means only three VMS are allowed ("to virtualize three physical servers"), or that you can run the single linces on 3 separate vSphere servers with any number of VMs.  But thats another question.

We have plenty of space on our SAN, but have not had time work out how add the iSCSI devices to the storage adapters yet.

We also have Symatec backup exec 2010 somewhere.
