Thanks guys. I actually did some more Googling, and changed the motherboard to one I read works well from a guy on another forum, with that CPU.
My current box runs Ubuntu 11.10 x64 (VMware Workstation 8) and connects to my datastore over NFS. I am currently using MS Services for Unix which works well. Would iSCSI show an improvement in performance over NFS? My network is only gigabit ethernet.
