using virtual machines on an NAS device with Workstation 7

I am using VMware Workstation 7 on my PC with an Intel E6700 Core 2 Duo processor, 8 GB of ram memory, and a Windows 7 Pro x64 host operating system. I simultaneously run a Windows 7 x32 guest virtual machine on my 2nd internal HDD and a Windows 7 x64 guest virtual machine on my third internal HDD. I've been considering moving the two guests virtual machines off of the 2nd and 3rd internal HDDs and onto the 1st and 2nd drives of a 4 bay external NAS, like a Synology DS411 Slim, set up for JBOD with a gigabit ethernet connection. Would this work? Would the performance of the two virtual machines suffer? They work fine now. Would the virtual machines utilize the PC's processor or the NAS's processor? If this works, I would consider adding two additional virtual machines in the remaining two bays of the NAS device.
