I was experimenting with the multiple extent feature with an ESXi 5.0 host (build 515841) that has two 2TB SATA drives connected to the motherboard SATA controller. For the test, the first drive was setup with a VMFS5 datastore and the second drive was added as an additional extent. The datastore capacity went up to 3.62TB as expected (the individual drives show up as 1.81TB in VMware). After the test I deleted the datastore to setup the drives as separate datastores. The second drive correctly shows a 1.81TB available space but the first drive only shows a maximum available space of 256GB. The disk layout displayed before creating the datastore on the first drive shows 1.81TB free space. Can the additional free space be recovered without reinstalling ESXi? Thanks.
