I have been using ESXi server for some years now. The hardware needs to be udpated so I'm in the process of putting together a new build.
One of the VM's I will be running is WHS 2011 and I'm planning on mirroring the system drive. It doesn't seem like this works propelry in ESXi for the fact that if you lose the drive the VM is stored you can't boot off of just the vmdk. I don't care to get a raid card currently as they are expensive.
Is there a big drawback to replaing ESXi with Workstation 8? I will be able to run software raid with no issues in Win7 and an i7 SB with 32GB Ram should be able to handle pretty much anything afaik.
I'm interested in hearing some pros/cons to both if anyone has some insight.
