In about three weeks I will putting together a View 5 pilot but am curious about how desktops are deployed. We have a lot of computer labs and each lab has some unique software installed. Can View desktops be associated with a computer in Active Directory (or an OU where the computers are found)? This seems like it gets even trickier if we deploy thin clients that I assume are not even joined to AD.
If I cannot deploy to computers, how do I handle the lab situation I describe above? For example, we have a business lab that has accounting software installed on each PC. If I can only deploy a desktop to a user or group of users things get tough. I have 1,200 students in my High School. I could look at students schedules, make a group in AD with only the students taking an accounting class, and then deploy a desktop to them with the accounting software installed. With many labs and a lot of students it seem unworkable.
